CASTING

We are opening casting for four of the five roles in PRECIPICE. A new musical premiering this winter at the New Diorama Theatre. The cast is an ensemble of five. Three actor-musicians and two actor-singers.

THE SHOW

Centuries apart, the residents of a towering high-rise arrive at a crossroads, taking shelter along the riverbank in Greenwich – the place where time begins and the world ends.

In the near present, a biomedical emergency drives a young couple to confront their own complicity in the face of impending catastrophe.

Four hundred years from now, those who remain celebrate their survival, while long buried truths threaten to unravel their carefully constructed way of life.

As the tides rise and the power fails, two timelines converge in a single flat, where yesterday’s mistakes become tomorrow’s reckonings.

A darkly funny new musical with a thrilling electro-folk score, Precipice is a story of crisis, humanity, and hope at the edge of disaster.

Precipice is the debut show from Timelapse, created collaboratively by Stu Barter (Talkshow), Rachel Bellman (These Demons), Darren Clark (Olivier winner for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Annabelle Lee Revak (Windsong), Shaye Poulton Richards (Lies All The Way Down), and Timelapse Artistic Director Adam Lenson (Cable Street).

ROLES

EMILY / ZOE (30-35, SHE/HER)

Emily is the one of core protagonists of the piece and we are looking for an exceptional leading actor-singer. This actor will occasionally double as Zoe, a member of the community in the future timeline.

Emily (Present). A civil servant working in environmental policy and logistics at DEFRA. She is endlessly concerned with doing the right thing and wants everybody to know. Her and Ash have recently moved into a new flat and are building a life together. But as the world begins to unravel she is robust enough to hold to her principles?

Zoe (Future). Wants to leave the community and dreams of being part of a bigger world than the one she’s grown up in.  Is willing to take risks to make that happen. Unflinchingly honest sometimes to the point of bluntness. A rational optimist who is always looking towards the future.

Though this performer does not need to be an actor-musician we are keen to hear of any instrumental skills they might have.

We are especially keen to receive suggestions for those traditionally underrepresented in theatre and musical theatre.

ASH / LEO (30-35, HE/HIM)

Ash is the one of core protagonists of the piece and we are looking for an exceptional leading actor-singer. This actor will occasionally double as Leo, a member of the community in the future timeline.

Ash. (Present) A microbiologist working on new antibiotic discovery. Has to make a painful choice between his own safety and doing the right thing. He has had to work hard for the life he has and is unsure about whether to detonate it. He cares about Emily with whom he has just moved in, but are they more different than they first thought?

Leo (Future) - A cynic with a heart of gold. He takes care of the community garden and loves his herbs and genetically engineered vegetables. Outwardly pessimistic and patronises the others around him. He tries to act stronger than he is to disguise his insecurities / vulnerabilities.

Though this performer does not need to be an actor-musician we are keen to hear of any instrumental skills they might have.

We are especially keen to receive suggestions for those traditionally underrepresented in theatre and musical theatre.

MAGGIE (35-50, SHE/HER)

Maggie is a leading actor-musician role. We are especially interested in Piano, Guitar, and Cello but please do suggest those skilled in other instruments if they are right for the role.

Maggie (Future). The community leader. Strains of politician mixed with spiritual leader. Trying her best to keep everything together. Has an outward kindness which betrays her inner steel. A true utilitarian who would gladly sacrifice the few for the good of the many.

We are especially keen to receive suggestions for those traditionally underrepresented in theatre and musical theatre.

PIPER (21-25, SHE/HER)

Piper is a leading actor-musician role. We are especially interested in Piano, Guitar, and Cello but please do suggest those skilled in other instruments if they are right for the role.

Piper (Future): An engineering prodigy. Insecure and desperately loyal to the community. They’re in charge of monitoring the balance of resources in and out of the community but have noticed a discrepancy which will forever change the community’s way of doing things. They are terrified of what might happen if they tell everyone the truth.

We are especially keen to receive suggestions for those traditionally underrepresented in theatre and musical theatre.
